Tres eran tres las hermanas Staveley-Taylor. Juntas cantaban folk rock en un pub de Watford, Inglaterra. Pero como el nombre era muy largo, decidieron acortarlo. Y quedó en The Staves. No despiertan el furor de grandes masas alocadas gritando sus nombres pero sí pasiones silenciosas que siguen las armonías vocales y la sencillez de las composiciones de las tres veinteañeras. Tras estudiar en el Liverpool School of Performing Arts, decidieron dedicarse a cantar. Simplemente.

En el año 2010 aparecieron en el álbum Praise and Blame, de Tom Jones, el trabajo de country lento y sentido del Tigre de Gales. Y a partir de ahí, se han ido abriendo un hueco en la nueva música tranquila, medio folk, medio country, medio indefinida del siglo XXI.

Teloneras de artistas jóvenes pero consagrados como Mt. Desolation, The Civil Wars o Bon Iver, han conseguido reconocimiento internacional, también en los Estados Unidos.

No es un estilo con gancho, pero parece que este alternative country ha captado la atención de auditorios encantados con sus vaporosas composiciones y la delicadeza de sus interpretaciones.
