Dos años después de que la carrera de aquel pianista invidente de Albany, Georgia, le llevara a top ten con Baby, Let me hold your hand, Ray Charles grabaría este tema con Atlantic Records. Era 1953 y Charlos lo convertiría en un clásico de la música popular nortemericana. El compositor de Mess around firmaba como A. Nugrete, pero tras le seudónimo se escondía ni más ni menos que el músico y compositor de origen turco Ahmet Ertegün, al tiempo fundador y presidente de Atlantic Records. Ertegün sería el descubridor de otros talentos además de a Ray Charles, véase: Aretha Franklin, Fran Zappa, Eric Clapton, Phil Collins, Génesis (cómo no) y los mismísimos Led Zeppelin o The Rolling Stones. Ahí es nada.
