“Father and Son”. Yusuf Islam. Vídeo, letra e información.

Yusuf Islam, antes-conocido-como Cat Steven, es un músico británico, hijo de madre sueca y padre greco-chipriota que se convirtió al islam en 1978, después de una experiencia cercana a la muerte. Desde entonces ha vivido apartado del mundo de la música y sus apariciones públicas han sido esporádicas. La más relevante de todas ellas es cuando tuvo que salir a defender su postura contraria a la fatwa lanzada por el ayatollah Jomeini contra Salman Rushdie por la supuesta blasfemia contenida en sus Versos Satánicos.

Después de permanecer 28 años apartado de los escenarios, Yusuf Islam reapareció en 2007 para dar un concierto en el Porchester Hall de Londres para la BBC, editado posteriormente en DVD como Yusuf´s Cafe Session, en la que interpretó varias canciones de su repertorio tradicional como The Wind, Where Do the Children Play?, Don’t Be Shy, Wild World, Peace Train y la que ahora publicamos Father and Son.

Esta canción nos parece una delicia y trata del diálogo sincero entre un padre y un hijo sobre la realidad de la vida y las distintas visiones, antagónicas, que ambos tienen de ver la forma de recorrer el sendero que conduce al objetivo último de los seres humanos, alcanzar la felicidad. En resumidas cuentas, la adaptación folk-pop del popular refrán más sabe el diablo por viejo que por diablo. Su letra dice:
