En 1939 se estrena una película musical que ha llegado a ser mucho más que una historia infantil: El Mago de Oz, basada en la novela de L. Frank Baum ‘El Maravilloso Mago de Oz’ y protagonizada por una jovencísima Judy Garland que contaba entonces apenas 16 años.

Música y letras corrieron de cuenta de Harold Arlen y EY ‘Yip’ que obtuvieron dos Oscar: mejor banda sonora y mejor canción: ‘Over the Rainbow’.
