Se podría decir que The Sons es una banda de rock alternativo, pero en su sonido hay algún que otro elemento, algún apunte, de otros estilos que le da a su música un carácter personal, atractivo y diferente. Referencias a Paul Simon, Wilco, Crowded House o Fleetwood Mac, un sonido tan actual como atemporal.

Provinientes de Derby, Inglaterra, el quinteto The Sons se formó en 2002 y desde entonces han mostrado una permanente trayectoria de crecimiento. Entre su primer disco, “Visiting Hours”, publicado en 2007 y el siguiente, que salió al mercado cuatro años después con el título de “The Prime Words Commitee”, la banda mostró una enorme evolución, acentuada más si cabe por las numerosas giras que en ese periodo realizó por el Reino Unido y Europa.

En 2011, The Sons intentó financiar su tercer álbum a través de una campaña en Kickstarter. Aunque sus fans prometieron aportar casi doce mil libras esterlinas, no alcanzaron su objetivo y el disco se pospuso casi dos años, hasta que la banda realizó su propia e imaginativa campaña de crowfunding y obtuvo la cantidad necesaria para entrar en el estudio.

“Relic” es el primer sencillo extraído del nuevo disco, “Heading Into Land” y, a pesar de mostrar el lado más suave de la banda, también es el poderoso reflejo de una atractiva propuesta musical. Una balada de pop alternativo en la que destaca la voz y la interpretación del cantante, Paul Herron, y de su piano, esencia del mejor Elton John. Cuenta la historia de un hombre que siente un enorme vació tras una amarga ruptura. Un sujeto con grandes sueños que, conforme avanza la canción, le proporcionan más y más éxito, hasta el punto de convertirse en el creador de todo lo que le rodea. Sin embargo, el sentimiento de vacío sigue presente, enorme, tanto hasta convertirle en el cascarón de la persona que fue. Hasta reducirle a una reliquia. Una preciosa historia, una bonita canción.
