Caballero del Imperio Británico y Barón, poseedor de tres Grammy y otros tantos Tony, un Emi y un Globo de Oro; es un compositor teatral reconocido más allá de su Inglaterra natal y, para él, Broadway y el West End londinense son su segundo hogar. Hablamos de Andrew Lloyd Webber.

Hijo de un compositor y una maestra de música, su destino parecía venir marcado desde la cuna y él lo ha seguido al pie de la letra y la nota convirtiéndose en uno de los músicos de teatro más importantes del siglo pasado e incluso de lo que de éste llevamos rodado.

El fantasma de la ópera, que se estrena en Londres en 1986, es una las creaciones de Webber, habiéndose basado en esta ocasión en una novela francesa de Leroux publicada 1910.

El amor es el protagonista de esta historia a la que Webber pone música, un amor casi obsesivo de un misterioso compositor de rostro desfigurado tras su máscara y una bella soprano de la ópera de París.

La obra es una de las de mayor duración en cartel tanto en el West End londinense como en Broadway donde se estrenó en 1988 para celebrar en 2012 su representación 10.000.
