Dire Straits fue una banda de rock británica, fundada en 1977 por Mark Knopfler a la voz y a la guitarra, David Knopfler también a la guitarra, John Illsley al bajo y Pick Withers a la batería, con Ed Bicknell como director.

El grupo basó gran parte de su éxito en su cantante, líder y guitarrista Mark Knopfler, que posteriormente ha continuado su carrera en solitario.

La banda se disolvió en 1995 no sin dejar antes una discográfica llena de grandes canciones.

Money for Nothing es la primera recopilación de la banda británica, lanzado en 1988. Incluía la canción también titulada Money for nothing.
