“Happy Family” ha resultado ser, según palabras de su compositor, el cantante y guitarrista Oscar “Lulu” Pollock, la canción más triste del álbum de debut de la banda británica Sundara Karma, “Youth I Only Ever Fun In Retrospect”. “Cuando escribo una canción no tengo ni idea de adónde va y es solamente cuando ya está terminada cuando encuentro su significado o su sentido”, ha comentado. La infancia y la soledad son el eje central de esta preciosa composición.

Favoritos de esta sección de Loff.it, Sundara Karma han aparecido en varias ocasiones. La primera hace un año, cuando se perfilaban como una de las bandas a seguir en el futuro; luego a principios del pasado otoño, con motivo de su primer single de adelanto de su disco de debut;  y por tercera vez cuando en enero este cuarteto de Reading publicó su primer álbum. Ahora sale este single, posiblemente el último que extraigan del LP, antes de ponerse de gira, asistir a un buen número de festivales y, ya para el otoño, encerrarse para trabajar en su siguiente disco.

El vídeo de “Happy Family” está dirigido por Stroma Cairns (Liv Dawson, GIRLI, Vaangoffey) y nos muestra a un chavalín al que prácticamente dejan sólo en casa y tiene que lidiar con su libertad y con la soledad, dos sentimientos contrapuestos y demasiado adultos para sus pocos años. El protagonista del clip se llama Luca Lamche y él solito se basta para, con una magistral interpretación, dar cuerpo a una historia de ausencia y descubrimiento. La canción es una preciosidad y el vídeo muy resultón.

Una banda con una trayectoria tan ascendente como Sundara Karma tiene asegurada su presencia en los principales festivales que se celebrarán este año. De momento ya están confirmados para Reading, Leeds Festival, Victorius, Y Not Festival, Truck Festival, Bam On The Farm, Best Kept Secret Festival, Dot To Dot Festival (en sus ediciones de Manchester, Bristol y Nottingham) y el que más cerca nos cae, el Bilbao BBK Live que se celebrará en Bilbao del 6 al 8 de julio.
