Pale Waves acompaña este single con un vídeo dirigido por la vocalista del grupo.
Pale Waves, regresa con su quinto clip: “You Don’t Own Me”, un ecléctico tema que trata de romper con la errónea perspectiva del rol femenino. El video fue dirigido por la vocalista Heather Baron-Gracie y co-dirigido por Kelsi Luck, donde se muestra a la cantante en una transición de imagen partiendo de un estereotipo muy femenino, a otra personalidad totalmente rebelde.
Este sencillo corresponde al cuarto lanzamiento de la banda inglesa, con la antesala de “Easy” (presentado el pasado 13 de enero), “Change”, “She’s My Religion” (2020) y “Fall To Pieces”, los cuales pertenecen a su nuevo álbum de estudio “Who Am I?”, publicado a principios de este mismo año 2021, a través del sello Dirty Hit.
Respecto a esta canción, Heather Baron-Gracie, explica cuán importante es este single en relación a `cómo es ser una mujer en este mundo´: “Se trata de cómo la sociedad describe, juzga y critica a las mujeres a diario. Esta canción es increíblemente importante para mí y quería representar mis propias experiencias”.
Pale Wave son una banda de indie rock procedente de Manchester que se formó en 2014. Inicialmente se llamaban Creek y estaban formados por la cantante y guitarrista Heather Baron-Gracie y la baterista Ciara Doran cuando ambas cursaban sus estudios en la universidad BIMM (Brithis And Irish Modern Music Institute). En una segunda oleada llegaron el guitarrista Ben Bateman y el bajista Ryan Marsden pero aguantaron poco tiempo dejando su puesto, respectivamente, a Hugo Silvani y a Charlie Wood. Con esa alineación más estable empezaron a grabar algunas maquetas en 2015, las cuales llamaron la atención del sello discográfico Dirty Hit, que les firmó en 2017. Con esta compañía publicaron su primer sencillo, “There´s A Honey”, lanzado el 21 de abril. En junio de ese mismo año, Pale Waves tocaron como teloneros de The 1975 en un abarrotado hasta la bandera Madison Square Garden. Ahí se inició una buena relación con la banda estrella y su cantante, Matty Healy, les dirigió el vídeo de su segundo sencillo, “Television Romance”. En diciembre de ese mismo año se embarcaron en su primer tour por Norte América para el que realizaron 21 conciertos en cuatro semanas.
En septiembre de 2018, Pale Waves publicó su primer álbum, “My Mind Makes Noises”, que ocupó lugares muy altos en las listas: número uno en la lista británica de indie y en la Heat de Estados Unidos.
El pasado 12 de febrero el grupo lanzó “Who Am I?”, su segundo LP, que también ha irrumpido con fuerza en varias listas y de nuevo ha sido Nº 1 en la de Indie de UK. Su música es una ardorosa combinación de indie pop, indie rock, pop punk, dream pop y synth pop, con reminiscencias e influencias de The Cranberries, The 1975, The Blue Nile, Avril Lavigne, Madonna, Prince, The Cure… y mucho otros más. Pero el mayor ascendente es Dolores O´Riordan, cantante de The Cranberries, de quien Baron-Gracie se declara fan absoluta. Y se nota.
