El nuevo disco de Chrissie Hynde va acompañado de un documental sobre como se grabó.
La carismática cantante, compositora y guitarrista Chrissie Hynde acaba de publicar su nuevo álbum, un trabajo en el que presenta nueve personales versiones de Bob Dylan. El disco se titula “Standing In The Doorway: Chrissie Hynde Sings Bob Dylan” y a las siempre geniales letras y música del cantautor de Minnesota hay que sumar la sedosa y maravillosa voz de la que fuera líder de The Pretenders, Chrissie Hynde.
Las canciones que componen este álbum fueron grabadas durante el confinamiento por Chrissie y su compañero de banda en Pretenders, James Walbourne, comunicándose por mensajes de teléfono y mandándose audios por este mismo sistema.
James grababa una idea inicial en su teléfono y se la enviaba a Chrissie para que agregara su voz, luego estas pistas fueron mezcladas por Tchad Blake (Pearl Jam, The Black Keys, U2, Arctic Monkeys, Suzanne Vega…) y el resultado final es este nuevo álbum compuesto por nueve canciones muy bien elegidas y nada convencionales de Bob Dylan y que ha aterrizado en las tiendas a través de BMG, en digital, el 21 de mayo de 2021.
La propia Chrissie ha comentado como dio forma al álbum y su inspiración: “Unas pocas semanas después de haber estado encerrado el año pasado, James me envió la canción de Dylan “Murder Most Foul”. Escuchar esa canción me sacó de este estado de ánimo taciturno en el que había caído”. Y Chrissie amplía su comentario sobre por qué hacer versiones de Dylan: “Haga lo que haga Bob, todavía se las arregla para hacerte reír porque, más que nada, es un comediante. Siempre es divertido y siempre tiene algo que decir. Entonces llamé a James y le dije: `Hagamos algunas versiones de Dylan´ y eso fue lo que arrancó todo esto».
Entre las canciones más conocidas de Dylan elegidas por Chrissie Hynde y James Walbourne están “You´re A Big Girl Now”, “Love Minus Zero / No Limits” o “Every Grain Of Sand”. Las demás son una muestra del afecto y la admiración que siente estos ex componentes de The Pretenders por Dylan, del que demuestran ser realmente fans: “In The Summer Time”, “Sweetheart Like You” o “Every Grain Of Sand”.
La elegida como single y vídeo es “Don´t Fall Apart On Me Tonight”, una canción que cierra al vigesimosegundo álbum de Dylan, “Infidels”, publicado en octubre de 1983. Se trata de una canción de amor dedicada a la pareja del narrador, algo que ya hizo (también cerrando los discos) en el “John Wesley Harding” (1967) y en el “Nasville Skyline” (1969).
El documental, “Tomorrow Is A Long Time”, producido por White Light Film Productions y dirigido por Michael Nunn y William Trevitt, analiza el proceso de grabación de las versiones de Bob Dylan y presenta en exclusiva la interpretación de estas versiones por Chrissie Hynde y James Walbourne. El documental se estrenó en Sky Arts el lunes 24 de mayo, el día del 80 cumpleaños de Bob Dylan.
