El soft-rock de las hermanas Haim nos sigue endulzando la vida. Vídeo, letra e información.

“Want You Back” es el tema que abre “Something To Tell You”, el segundo álbum de estudio de las hermanas Haim. Esta canción, lanzada el 3 de mayo de este año, fue elegida para ser el single que debía anunciar el inminente estreno del nuevo Lp, el cual salió oficialmente a la venta el pasado 7 de julio. De esta composición, ahora se acaba de poner en circulación un vídeo con las tres hermanas como protagonistas.

Este, Danielle y Alana proceden de California y aunque se criaron en San Fernando Valley, actualmente residen en Los Ángeles. Hijas de padres judíos, empezaron en una banda familiar en la que papi tocaba la batería y mami la guitarra y todos juntos se dedicaban a hacer versiones en fiestas y actos benéficos. Ahí fue donde las niñas conocieron y se encariñaron con la música de los setenta. Luego Danielle y Este montaron una banda de chicas llamada The Valli Girls con inclinación por Pretenders, Blondie o Pat Benatar. Aunque no llegaron a nada, consiguieron firmar con la discográfica Columbia y sonar en la banda sonora de una película para adolescentes.

Fue en 2006 cuando oficialmente formaron su propia banda. Al principio no se la tomaron demasiado en serio porque todavía estaban pendientes de sus estudios. Sin embargo, todo fue dirigiendo poco a poco los pasos de las tres chicas hacia un punto común, que no era otro que dedicarse en exclusiva a Haim. Además, como las tres jóvenes saben tocar diversos instrumentos, la cosa no planteó mayor inconveniente y que se pusieran en marcha fue algo muy natural.

Así las cosas, a principio de 2012 lanzaron “Forever”, su primer EP con tres canciones que dispusieron de forma gratuita en su página web. Su gran acogida por el público y la crítica propició que una discográfica independiente, National Anthem, lo publicara en vinilo. Tanto en Estados Unidos como en el Reino Unido tuvieron bastante éxito y más cuando abrieron los conciertos de Mumford & Sons y Florence + The Machine en sus respectivas giras. Premios, apariciones en la televisión, prensa… lo habitual en ese caso. Finalmente, en septiembre de 2013 publicaron su primer álbum “Days Are Gone”.

Es posible que el sonido de Haim no sea tremendamente original, pero sí que es muy agradable. Un rock suave (soft-rock), dulce y melodioso, con voces bien trabajadas, melodías sencillas y luminosas, una instrumentación cuidada y todo en su sitio y en su orden. Todo limpio y cuidado, perfecto para ganarse la audiencia. Además, y eso es un gran mérito, recuerdan a Fleetwood Mac. Eso les hace ganar muchos puntos y bastantes corazones.

Ahora acaban de publicar su segundo LP, “Something To Tell You”, grabado en California y co-producido por ellas mismas y por Ariel Rechshaid (Adele,  Beyoncé, Kylie Minogue, Vampire Weekend…), BloodPop (Kendrick Lamar, Ellie Goulding, Madonna, Lady Gaga), el componente de Vampire Weekend Rostam Batmanglij, y el cantante, compositor, productor y actor George Lewis Jr. Once bonitas canciones con atinados estribillos, hermosas voces y un halo de inocencia que cautiva. Mucho más que suficiente.

“Want You Back” es muy Fleetwood Mac y en ella se pueden percibir destellos de Lindsey Buckingham y de Christine McVie y la maestría de Don Henley para construir hits radiofónicos, aunque las radios ya no sean lo que fueron. Incluso, además de su habitual regusto a los Fleetwood, hay algo de Tom Petty.

El vídeo lo ha dirigido Jake Schreier y tiene a las tres hermanas Haim como protagonistas. Grabado en una sola toma, está filmado en Ventura Boulevard y vemos a las chicas andando por en medio de la avenida totalmente desierta y siguiendo el ritmo de la música. Pero no es que vayan bailando como locas, simplemente siguen la canción como lo haría cualquiera con sus casquitos puestos y que estuviera muy metido en la cuestión. ¡Chuli!

Por cierto, para aquellos que vean en estas tres chicas un simple producto comercial o de marketing, sin sustancia ni talento, este año han pasado por Glastonbury y han convencido a una nutrida audiencia que, además, está acostumbrada a presenciar conciertos de bandas revelación y de estrellas consagradas del rock. Algo tienen.
