A sus veintidós años, este joven músico mitad tanzano, mitad inglés, se ha convertido en uno de los más prometedores intérpretes del Reino Unido. Residente en Nottingham, Ady Suleiman, que ese es su nombre, lleva algún tiempo trabajando de forma underground con diversos productores, incluido el afamado SMV (Plan B, Kwabs). Pacientemente, el músico y cantante ha esperado hasta tener un buen producto que ofrecer y ese momento acaba de llegar en forma de un Ep, titulado “This Is My EP”, publicado a través de Pemba Records (nombre del lugar de nacimiento de su padre).

Cuando Ady Suleiman nombra como músicos influyentes no se olvida de clásicos como Jimi Hendrix, el recientemente fallecido B.B. King, Ray Charles o Steve Wonder y tampoco de otros más actuales como la ya desaparecida Amy Winehouse, Michael Knwanuka o James Blake. Referencias de rock, de soul, de R&B, de rap, de pop, de reggae. Melodías de pop pegadizas y ritmos jamaicanos contagiosos, como en el caso de “State Of Mind”, que se entrelazan con fraseados de rap y una curtida voz de soul. Por todo esto no es extraño que se haya hecho con un buen número de seguidores en la red, algunos bastante populares como los músicos Chace The Rapper, Joey Bada$$. Labrinth o George The Poet.

Tras haber contado a principios de año con la colaboración del director Michael Holyk para su clip “So Lost”, Ady Suleiman vuelve a recurrir a este experto cineasta que cuenta en su currículo haber realizado videoclips para Gabrielle Aplin, Southern, Whilk & Misky, Sam Smith, Jake Bugg, Benga, Danaeo o Alice Gold. Aquí vemos como Holyk se luce con un video grabado en las calles de Londres, con Suleiman expresando sus ideas sobre la religión, la fe y la política y refuerza el divertido mensaje implícito en la canción sobre la sociedad modera. En su recorrido, los pensamientos del cantante aparecen reflejados gracias a un variopinto elenco que va desde una figura religiosa con un megáfono, mojas, futuros diputados, Adán y Eva… Al caer la noche, el tono se hace más oscuro, al igual que las preguntas del músico “¿dónde estabas tú cuando los soldados fueron a la guerra? Porque es por ti por quien están luchando”. Una filmación que refuerza el carisma y la personalidad de este nuevo talento de la música británica llamado Ady Suleiman.
