Austen Chamberlain, político británico y Premio Nobel de la Paz, nació en Birmingham el 16 de octubre de 1863.

Sir Austen Chamberlain es uno de los políticos históricos de Gran Bretaña, nació en Birmingham, su madre falleció cuando era todavía un niño y creció entre familiares cercanos y también junto a su padre y su segunda esposa; estudió en Cambridge; una vez terminados sus estudios viajó por Europa, especialmente por Alemania y Francia y, a su regreso, inició su andadura política en la Cámara de los Comunes como representante del partido conservador.

Llegó a liderar al grupo de su partido en la Cámara de los Comunes pero su mayor logro, el que le reportó tanto el Premio Nobel de la Paz como el título de Sir, lo alcazó en su etapa como Ministro de Exteriores; Chamberlain fue uno de los artífides del Pacto de Locarno, un acuerdo en virtud del cual los países firmantes se comprometían a recurrir a un arbitraje en caso de disputas entre países y nunca a las armas.

Una vez cumplida su etapa de gobierno se mantuvo como parlamentario y se convirtió en un referente al pedir  el rearme británico frente al creciente apogeo nazi; Austen Chamberlain no llegó a ver el estallido del conflicto que anticipaba porque falleció en 1937 sin llegar tampoco a ver al primer Chamberlain, su medio hermano Neville, hijo de su padre y su segunda esposa, convertido en Primer Ministro británico.
