Ya está en la calle “Great Divide”, el nuevo disco de Twin Atlantic, la banda de Glasgow formada en 2007 tras la unión de cuatro músicos que provenían de pequeños grupos locales. La formación no ha sufrido cambios en este tiempo y Sam McTrusty sigue siendo la voz solista y la guitarra rítmica, Barry McKenna guitarra solista, coros y también cello, Ross McNae bajista, piano y coros y Craig Kneale, batería y coros. Es decir, todos aportan voces, lo que redunda en la gran carga armónica y melódica de su música.

Su primer disco fue un Ep titulado “A Guidance From Colour”, publicado en 2007. Con él bajo el brazo fueron llamados para ser teloneros primero de Smashing Pumpkins en un concierto en Glasgow y luego de varias bandas americanas como Blink-182, Say Anything, Finch o The Matches para sus respectivas giras por el Reino Unido. En marzo de 2009 publicaron su Lp de debut, “Vivarium”, con Red Bull Records, y mientras seguían mostrando su enorme atractivo sobre un escenario abriendo los conciertos en las giras de The Gaslight Anthem y de My Chemical Romance.

Su estilo es una bonita y sencilla mezcla de rock alternativo, algo de punk muy melódico, con muchas armonías vocales, y pop por los buenos estribillos y lo directo de su resultado. Su segundo álbum, “Free”, publicado en 2011, era una evidencia de que Twin Atlantic tenía y tiene mucho que ofrecer.

El nuevo álbum “Great Divide” fue grabado durante los meses en los que andaban ocupados con actuaciones en festivales y embarcados en una gira por locales con todas las entradas vendidas. En palabras del cantante, Sam, la mayoría de las canciones fueron escritas en la parte trasera del autobús en el que se desplazaban durante el tour y con un alto nivel de adrenalina generado por las miles de personas que acudían a cada concierto. Con la ayuda del productor Gil Norton, se fueron a los estudios Rockfield, en Gales. Allí se vieron envueltos en un ambiente muy folk y tuvieron la oportunidad de utilizar el mismo piano que se usó para la grabación del tema de Queen “Bohemian Rhapsody”. Los últimos retoques al disco se los dieron en Los Ángeles con Jacknife Lee.

El clip de la canción “Brothers & Sisters” está dirigido por Jim Canty, quien ha realizado videos para Mumford & Sons, Biffy Clyro, Mika, Spiritualized o James Blunt. Canty trata de fusionar una actuación del grupo en un gran espacio vacío con una iluminación forzadamente dramática. La localización es el aeródoromo de Elvington, en el norte de Yorkshire.
