Energía gratis no es una reivindicación, que podría serlo, simplemente se trata de una joven y vigorosa banda americana.
El núcleo del grupo lo forman los hermanos Wells, Scott (guitarra) y Evan (bajo), y Paul Sprangers (cantante). Previamente los tres ya habían metido bastante ruido en su pueblo, Red Wing, Minnesota, con una banda entre hard-core y emo-rock llamada Hockney Night. Cosas de la adolescencia.
En el otoño del 2008 decidien dedicarse a la música y se trasladan a Philadelphia y reorganizar el grupo, incluyendo a un batería y a otro guitarrista. Su vitalidad la canalizaron hacia un indie rock, con influencia en el rock de los 70 y a veces incluso un toque de AOR (Adult Oriented Rock). De ahí las comparaciones con The Cars y con Journey.
Hasta el momento han publicado varios singles y dos buenos álbumes, “Stuck On Nothing” en el 2010 –la revista Rolling Stone les nombró como una de las mejores nuevas bandas de ese año- y “Love Sign”, grabado con el prestigioso productor John Agnello, el pasado 2013.
Es muy posible que la canción “Electric Fever” te produzca dos reacciones. Una, empezar a bailar y a dar saltos. Es mérito del grupo, la letra hace referencia a ello todo el rato; la energía de la noche, de la fiesta. Y dos, que el riff de guitarra despierte algo en tu cabeza, algo que te golpea una y otra vez. Seguramente eso ya te sentiste en el 83, cuando escuchaste a los canadienses Bachman-Turner-Overdrive y su canción, sensacional canción, “You Ain´t Seen Nothing Yet”.
